WHERE: NORTHERN RIVERS CONSERVATORIUM

The Northern Rivers Conservatorium is thrilled to welcome the esteemed Michael Hannan for a performance presentation of his creative work.

Michael Hannan is a composer, keyboard performer and music researcher. He studied at the University of Sydney and graduated with a PhD in 1979. As a composer Michael has specialised in solo piano works, electroacoustic music, experimental music and music for the theatre, composing over one hundred and fifty works.  His CD recordings include Terrains (Tall Poppies Records, 2001), Improvisations and Comprovisations (Wirripang, 2013), The Flood (Wirripang, 2015) and Callisto: Music for Fairlight CMI (Wirripang, 2016).

Michael is Adjunct Professor in the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Southern Cross University where he developed the first Australian degree in Contemporary Music.

In the early days of the Northern Rivers Conservatorium Michael Hannan wrote all the documentation for the VETAB accreditation of certificate courses in music, dance and dramatic art. Most of the Con teaching staff who studied contemporary music at Southern Cross University were taught in one subject or another by Michael.

This presentation by Michael Hannan explores the range of his creative practice including notated music for the concert hall, electroacoustic music created in the studio and music involving improvisation and other indeterminate processes. Michael will illustrate his talk with solo piano performances and recordings, both audio and video, that he or other performers have made.
